I have a couple of questions. What was the $25,000 donation from Tatum Athletics Booster donated for? What will be purchased with these funds? Also, I am confused about the bond budget of Phase I and Phase II. Phase I was over budget, so what will happen to TMS Parking, Community Park 149, Community Park Softball, and Community Park Dump? Also, why is the field house and coliseum dressing part of phase II bond? I thought they were coming out of the general account not bond money.
Donations in cash can't define what is to be purchased. The funds were donated to the athletic department where Coach Evans is given discretion on spending the donation. He allocated $2,625 to football, volleyball, girls basketball, boys basketball, girls track, boys track, baseball and softball. Allocations of $1,000 were to cross country, tennis, golf and jr. high. The head coaches of each sport have discretion to spend the funds allocated to their sport.
The administration will present the bond budget projections at the December Board meeting held at 6 PM on December 10. Basically, as the bond projects are allocated through the end of TES construction, there may be excess funds to allocate to those projects not completed. If not, the Board will analyze the allocation of general fund balance and completion of projects.
The field house and coliseum dressing will be paid for from the general fund. The projects are being bid with Phase II of the bond to facilitate the construction oversight by the existing construction manager firm and to get a better price in the bidding of a larger set of projects.
Thank you for clearing up those questions for me. It make sense to me now. My personal opinion is that the school should hold off on building the field house and coliseum dressing area until after the new elementary is built because we do not even have bids on Phase III and Phase IV projects. What if they go over budget. I would rather cut back on the field house before we cut back on a new school. Also, I think that since the taxpayers voted for a big bond to increase taxes for 20-30 years and phase I was over budget, that the district should pay for 4 projects overbudget before they spend 2 million on a new field house.
