After reading this week’s report, I am concerned about the spending of 1.8 million on renovating the practice gym to another field house. The current field house had an extensive renovation just a couple of years ago and I find it hard to believe that there is not enough space. Renovating the practice gym into another football field house shows that Tatum ISD is wasting tax payer’s money. I do not have a problem with having a nice field house, but to build two in a couple of year’s apart shows that there was a lack of planning.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see more funds support girl’s athletics. There are always at least 30 freshman girls in volleyball. All have to share locker space, some are 3 in one locker, but there is not a new field house being built for the girls. There are 17 coaches for football but only 5 for volleyball 7-12 grade. At the middle school there are 6 football coaches for about 90 boys playing and only 2 volleyball coaches for 90 girls playing. It is hard to watch funds being spent to support primarily football and knowing that girls are not getting the same support. When the boys won state in football, there a parade, fireworks, and huge celebration, but when the girls won state in track there was no celebration.

DeleteThere will be additional projects presented at the August Board meeting this evening for female dressing at THS and TMS.
The athletic staff is currently analyzing practice schedules, coaching assignments and TISD is soliciting for a coach to assist. The coach could be an existing staff member, a retired educator or a college student.
